Mark Robinson admits his side faced an uphill battle after being dismissed for 60 on the opening morning of their LV= Insurance County Championship match against Middlesex.
Having lost the toss, the Bears were put under pressure early and were unable to shift the momentum that Middlesex gained.
“It’s been a tough week, hasn’t it?” said Robinson. “We lost the toss on a good wicket to bowl on and we just played catch up since that point.
“I think 60 all out doesn’t happen often and when you’re 14/5 you don’t come back from many games like that. I’ve got no qualms on that, really. From that point onwards you you need a lot to go your way and we didn’t quite get that. We stuck in the game and yesterday we showed some really good character, but today will be what disappoints you.
“There’s no way we should be bowled out in an hour. We lost six wickets like that and it was the same against Lancashire last week so those are the bits that we need to address.
“I think that’s a sign we were tired because when a team is tired, when players are tired, their decision making gets affected. When players feel like they’re under the pump for runs themselves or that they’re feeling the team pressure again that affects our decision making. I think that’s been reflected in our scoring rate, which has got a bit pedestrian. We have a little chance to to regroup and to have a break before we come back and hit those last four games hard.”
