Ethan Brookes said that having batted with opener Ed Barnard, it’s helped him, and he is pleased with where his game is at – after he and the side won a narrow game at Hove to secure a home semi-final in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

Tickets for the semi-final fixture at Edgbaston on Tuesday are on sale now, with adults only £10 and Members and under 16s go free.

Brookes also added he felt “calm” during the encounter and playing with Ed Barnard has helped the right-hander learn how to construct a one day innings.

“I think after batting with Barney [Ed Barnard] last game and getting to know how he works; I enjoy playing with him and it makes me feel calm.

“Obviously, you can catch up later in your innings, and now the last two games I’ve been one off ten and one off twelve. So, it’s good to come in and have him calm you down.

“I was disappointed I couldn’t have been there at the end to help bring the game home, but I’m just happy with what I’m doing and that the boys got it done in the end.

“My ball striking has been good, and for me it’s just about playing the situations as best I can really.”

Now that the end is near and the team have a home semi-final to look forward to, Brookes said it would be “nice” to sign off with a trophy.

“Look, that’s seven wins out of eight but obviously we have to keep our head on our shoulders and not go too complacent. However, building up to the semi-final we’ve put some great performances in,and everyone’s done their bit.

“It would absolutely be nice to sign off with some silverware. These eight games have come thick and fast, so we’ve got some time off now to rest and recovery.

“Although we’ll all come back and be geared up for Tuesday’s semi-final.”
