Mark Robinson says Warwickshire's season finale against Somerset was 'bizarre' as a wet outfield, under bright blue skies led to a handshake at around 12.30pm.
The Bears were keen to continue the inroads they’d set with the visitor’s effectively sitting on 34 for two and 96 overs of cricket still to be played.
But overnight rain, on top of a wet few weeks, caused concern to the umpires and an early ending to what could have been an exciting end to the season.
Robinson and Captain Will Rhodes had plans of setting up a game however, but they were unable to get their desired restart whilst the sun shined and the Members waited patiently.
“It’s bizarre isn’t it?” said the First Team Coach after the match. “We’ve played three days under dark cloud and floodlights and we can’t get out there because of the overnight rain. It just sort of sumps up how cricket can be.
“It was a shame because we don’t know whether we could get over the line. They were 34/2 and we would have needed a good morning to try and force. the game, but we know we’ve been true to ourselves all season. We’ve just talked about winning and being brave with our decisions even if they don’t prove to be the right ones. We’re not interested in mid-table, we’re interested in trying to win thing and today was one of those.
“Could we get early wickets in the morning? If not, could we come to an agreement with the captains to have some type of run chase to make sure we have an exciting day? In the end the weather beat us.”
