Warwickshire will be well represented when England’s Under-19s tour India next month after three Bears were selected in the squad.
Hamza Shaikh, Tazeem Ali and Theo Wylie have been included in the 17-player squad that flies to the sub-continent on 4 November for an ODI Quadrangular Series against India A, India B and Bangladesh.
All three of Warwickshire’s Young Lions featured in the recent U19 ODI series against Australia.
Shaikh, who was England’s leading white ball run scorer with 235, also played in two Tests against the Aussies where he averaged 30.66.
The 17-year-olds will be looking to stake a claim ahead of the 2024 Men’s Under-19s World Cup which starts in Sri Lanka on 13 January.
Warwickshire Performance Director Gavin Larsen, said: “We’re thrilled for the guys on their selection; it’s fully deserved for these young men, who really moved their games forward in 2023.
“There is some fantastic young talent in England so to be picked among the top 17 prospects in the country is impressive.
“It’s a proud moment for them and also for Warwickshire as it’s testament to the work of our coaching team in the Youth Pathway and Academy to identify and nurture young talent.
“A fantastic opportunity awaits them in India, both on and off the park, and there’s no better place to test yourself both as a player and a person than on the sub-continent.
“And of course there’s the additional carrot for the players as following this India tour the U19 World Cup squad to play in Sri Lanka in January will be selected.”
