Michael Booth is ready to embark on his Bears career after signing a three-year contract with the Club.

Officially confirmed on Friday 27 October, Booth admits he’s buzzing to be a Bear’ after signing his first pro deal, although his arrival should not come as too much of a surprise.

Booth, made two appearances in the Metro Bank One Day Cup earlier this year, earning his debut against Glamorgan, before taking his first Warwickshire wicket against Worcestershire the following game.

The 22-year-old has impressed the coaching ranks, not only for his performances within the senior team but the opportunities given in the Second XI since 2021.

“I sent a lot of emails out to Second XI coaches and Ian Westwood replied,” said Booth. “I came to a practice net before a 50 over comp fixture and then I was involved with twos for the rest of that summer.

“This year was the first time I was around the senior squad and I got a good taste of what it’s like to be there. It’s been a big stress to get the contract done, especially as I was finishing my studies in June, and I didn’t really have a plan.

“My biggest hope was to play cricket and I’m so fortunate to be given this chance to be a Bear and a contract.”

Booth not only comes with a razor-sharp right arm but an academic background. The Zimbabwe native earned a first class degree in Economics at Durham University, where he attended alongside fellow Bear Chris Benjamin.

“Benji put a good word in for me,” joked Booth. “In my first year, Benji was my first team captain and I lived with him for a few months. I’m very close to him and we’re living together in Birmingham so that’s been a big help.”

That closeness isn’t just from Benjamin either.

“I love this group and I love the lads,” concluded Booth. “It’s all been so nice for me and they’ve really helped me settle and transition into professional cricket. I get on with everyone and I don’t think there’s any bad blokes in the squad at all!”
