Report: Warwickshire v Lancashire, Second XI
Warwickshire’s openers dug deep to ensure their rain-affected Second XI fixture against Lancashire at Edgbaston ended in a draw.
Hamza Shaikh (49) and Amir Khan (17) batted out 17 overs on the final day to see both sides shake hands at 5pm.
Originally scheduled to be a home match for the Red Rose, play didn’t start until Tuesday as heavy rain delayed proceedings. Nevertheless, it was a fixture that saw plenty of notable storylines.
Rocky Flintoff – son of legendary figure Andrew – struck 116 as the visitor’s declared on 404/8 dec after option to bat first at the toss.
Rocky, just 16, was also playing alongside his brother Corey (18) with their father in attendance. Andrew, known around the cricketing world as ‘Freddie’, scored 650 runs and took 29 wickets in 14 matches for England at Edgbaston.
In reply, Bears were dismissed for 267 with Chris Benjamin (74) and Sam Hain (55) making notable contributions. Hain has missed the opening three Vitality County Championship fixtures due to personal reasons.
