Report: Nottinghamshire v Warwickshire, Second XI
Warwickshire’s Second XI came agonisingly close to landing a stunning win at Nottinghamshire, falling just short having taken seven second innings wickets for just 37 runs.
Bears declared their second innings on 136/2 – Chris Benjamin unbeaten on 75 following his 112 earlier in the match – to set the hosts 301 for victory at the Nottingham (Lady Bay) Sports Ground.
Notts openers Ben Martindale and Freddie McCann combined for an opening stand of 118 before all-rounder Ismail Mohammed – a cousin of Moeen Ali – and ex-Sussex spinner Tom Hinley tore through the hosts, taking four wickets apiece.
However, it wasn’t quite enough for victory as a dogged 30 not out by Toby Pettman in a 36-run ninth-wicket stand frustrated Warwickshire. The hosts closed on 204/8 to seal a draw.
Mohammed also contributed 121 runs (82 and 39*) while captain Hamza Shaikh hit 72 in the first innings.
