Seamer Craig Miles has joined Glamorgan on loan for the start of the Vitality County Championship.

Miles has agreed a month-long move to South Wales that will see him get important red ball miles under his belt for the Division 2 side.

He’s in line to make his debut for the club against Middlesex on 5 April, followed by his home bow versus Derbyshire (12 April) and finally at Northamptonshire on 19 April before returning to Edgbaston in May.

Warwickshire have the option to recall Miles during the loan should the need arise.

Miles has claimed 134 wickets for the Bears in all formats, including 80 First Class scalps in 30 matches and a best of 5-28 against Lancashire at Lord’s in the 2021 Bob Willis final.

But his red ball outings were limited in 2023 as he played only three times, taking five wickets.

“I’m naturally disappointed not to be starting the season with Warwickshire,” said Miles, who joins up with his new teammates at Lord’s on Thursday. “But at the same time I want to get overs under my belt so I’m grateful I’ll get the opportunity with Glamorgan.

“The ultimate aim is to perform well in those three games, take wickets, and to stake a claim to get back into the Bears side. That’s not easy as we have such a strong bowling line-up who are doing great things…but the motivation is there for me to do well.

“I’m feeling good, fit and ready to go. I feel like I’ve found a good rhythm and my body is strong. I’m looking forward to the challenge and, as we know in cricket, things can change quickly.”

Miles made his 100th appearance in First Class cricket in the final game of last season against Somerset at Edgbaston.

Warwickshire First Team Coach Mark Robinson said: “Glamorgan are getting a fine bowler and great professional,” he said, “while Warwickshire get competitive cricket into one of our key squad members.

“The loan is for the first three games of the season but we can recall Craig when needed.

“This is a good opportunity for Craig to play some First Class cricket and improve his chances of selection for us.”
