Edgbaston happy home for Gleeson
Richard Gleeson was offered his first professional county trial by Warwickshire more than a decade ago – so it felt fitting when the feared fast bowler returned to Edgbaston to sign for the 2024 Vitality Blast.
Bears snapped up the 36-year-old – who didn’t make his professional debut till he was 27 – after he was released by Lancashire at the end of the 2023 season.
He has fond memories of Edgbaston. Gleeson has played six IT20s for England, including his remarkable debut at Edgbaston in 2022 that saw him skittle India’s Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant in the space of four balls.
“Edgbaston is an amazing stadium, somewhere that’s close to my heart after making my England debut there. I can’t wait to get out in front of that home crowd again, take a few poles and win some games.”
