Warwickshire Women slip to defeat against Gloucestershire
Warwickshire Women opener Beth Charnell put on a battling 31 but it wasn’t enough to prevent her side slipping to defeat in a 50-over clash against Gloucestershire.
With conditions overcast on their return to Portland Road (June 30) captain and Central Sparks player Anisha Patel won the toss and opted to bat.
Warwickshire lost opener Mariam Khan early on. It was the catalyst for a flurry of wickets that left the hosts struggling on 22/4 after six overs.
Laura Crofts steadied the innings alongside Charnell as the pair found some rhythm before Crofts was caught and Charnell was trapped LBW for 31 having faced 84 balls.
Tight bowling from Gloucestershire meant Warwickshire were bowled out for 114 after 34.5 overs.
Ellie Phillips opened the bowling alongside Central Sparks’ Academy player Gemma Porter and struck in the fourth over to leave the visitors on 11/1.
But a firm partnership for Gloucestershire saw them edge closer to the day’s target before Crofts made the breakthrough with a catch from Aamna Khan.
Another for Crofts came in the 21st over but it was straightforward for the visitors beyond the fall of the third wicket as they chased down 115 in 26.3 overs to win by seven wickets.
Warwickshire Women are back in action on Sunday 14 July as a visit to Exeter will see them face Devon Cricket in another 50-over meeting.
