Bears pacer Richard Gleeson has been added to the Chennai Super Kings squad for the remainder of IPL 2024.

The right-armer, who joins up with fellow Bear Moeen Ali, replaces injured wicket-keeper Devon Conway in the squad.

CSK are currently in third place, having won four of their opening six games, and face Lucknow Super Giants on Friday. Gleeson’s addition could be a precursor to Mustafizur Rahman’s departure with the Bangladesh, left-arm seamer playing until the 1 May.

Gleeson, a winter recruit, signed a deal that covers the Bears’ group games – from 31 May to 19 July – and a return in September should they reach the knockout stages.

The 36-year-old has played six IT20s for England, including his remarkable debut at Edgbaston in 2022 that saw him skittle India’s Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant in the space of four balls.

Taking 101 wickets in T20s, including a five-wicket haul, the Blackpool-native has a wealth of franchise cricket experience.

Recently featuring for Gulf Giants in the ILT20, Gleeson has also played for Manchester Originals in last summer’s The Hundred – taking eight wickets – and Durban Super Giants in the SA20. This will be his first taste of the IPL.
