England Women's Captain Heather Knight can't wait to kickstart England's international summer at Edgbaston on Saturday 11 May.
The 33-year-old led the Three Lions during last year’s Ashes in which Edgbaston smashed the record for the highest crowd for a standalone women’s international in the UK, outside of global events, beating the 15,187 at Lord’s last summer for the ODI versus India.
That incredible support of 19,527 stays with Knight, as does the battling performance that saw England push their Australia rivals all the way.
“I love playing at Edgbaston and it’s always a lot of fun,” said Knight. The crowd is a bit loud, a bit boisterous, which I quite like.
“We had an awesome atmosphere when we played Australia last year and we really felt that support. I think the Aussies were getting a bit of stick on the boundary, which was a bit new for them. They took it in a really good spirit, but it’s a cool place to play.
“Although we lost that felt like a turning point. We started to believe more that we can beat this Australian team and it was close game on a cool night. What we went on to do started at Edgbaston.”
England head into Saturday’s clash as the second ranked T20 side and with series wins in India and New Zealand – the third and fourth ranked teams respectively – there’s plenty of confidence within the group.
“It’s going to be a tough series as Pakistan are an improving side,” added Knight. “They’ve got a new captain in Nida Dar and they’ve got some good players that have performing well, but we want to keep honing in on how we play our T20 cricket with the World Cup coming in October.
“We’re starting at an iconic ground with a big crowd expected, so we’ll be looking to perform well and put in some dominant performances.”
