Sam Hain says he was trying to continue the 'tempo' that was set by the top order in Friday's win over the Vikings at Headingley.
The Talbots Law Player of Match arrived at the crease on 53/2, striking 98* (48 balls, 5×4,8×6), to lead the Bears to 214/7 after choosing to bat first.
“I actually didn’t to be honest with you. I didn’t feel in the groove,” said Hain post-match,. “From my point of view I was tired coming into the game as we had a long four days down in Taunton, which I’ll be honest, left a bitter taste in my month leaving there.
“So coming here tonight, I was just trying to see ball and hit ball. I thought Davo started with a great tempo and I just tried to carry that form on.”
Heading into the final over, all eyes were on Hain as he looked to score his second T20 century.
But at the non-strikers end, the right-handed batter could only watch on as the lower order added a valuable 13 runs to the total. Hain was subsequently applauded off by both the opposition players and fans in what turned out to be a match-winning innings.
“I don’t know what you want me to say to that,” Hain laughed when asked if he rues not having the opportunity to reach three figures. “It’s fine. The most important thing is I don’t think we played our best game tonight, but it just goes to show that even if we’re not quite there, we’re still getting two points.”
