Bears Women have made three exciting new additions to their squad as the team’s preparations for a new era in women’s cricket gathers pace.
Wicketkeeper batter Nat Wraith joins from Western Storm while promising teenagers Millie Taylor and Amuruthaa Surenkumar arrive from Southern Vipers Academy and Sunrisers, respectively.
Wraith joined Somerset-based Storm in 2019 and earned her first professional contract the following year.
She’s has been an ever present since and 2024 had a standout year for Club and county with 428 List A runs at an average of 35.66.
The 22-year-old has also been a regular in The Hundred having appeared for Welsh Fire, London Spirit and, this summer, Trent Rockets when she made eight appearances.
“I’m really excited to meet everyone and be part of a new environment,” said Bristol-born Wraith, who has amassed 1,193 runs in List A and 812 in T20 since making her county debut in 2016 for Gloucestershire.
“I’m hearing lots of good things about the Bears and the positivity around the camp going into our first season together. It’s an exciting time to join such a big Club. I can’t wait to get to Birmingham and get stuck in!”
England Under-19s all-rounder Amu Surenkumar, aged 17, was part of Sunrisers’ Academy from 2021-23 before making her senior debut in July 2023.
The Rugby School student, a medium pace bowler, made an impressive start to her professional career when, aged 16, she scored 25 and took 2/44 against Southern Vipers in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.
Sussex-born Millie Taylor, a 19-year-old spinning all-rounder, has been a leading wicket taker for Vipers Academy and in July returned figures 5/10 against Lancashire Thunder Academy.
She was also part of Team British & Irish Roses in this summer’s European T10 League, in Portugal, where she made seven appearances.
Bears Head of Women’s Cricket Laura MacLeod, said: “Nat has had an impressive season, scoring plenty of runs at a good average. She was one of few domestic players to bat in the top four in The Hundred; Trent Rockets backed her to play with positive intention.
“She will strengthen our top order batting, with plenty of power and potential, as well as providing competition for the wicketkeeping position.
“And in Millie and Amu I think we have two of the most promising teenagers around. Amu has already toured with England Under-19s. Millie is a rare find in the women’s game: a left arm leg spinner. She will add depth and variety to an exciting group of spinners.”
