Bears Women are set to compete in a new T20 County Cup competition that promises some FA Cup style giant killing upsets.
The Vitality T20 Women’s County Cup – being played for the first time in 2025 – sees 37 teams from across the three tiers of the women’s domestic structure face off in knock-out competition.
As Tier 1 side, Bears Women enter the competition at Round 3.
And the draw has pitched them against one of Dorset, Devon or Suffolk in an away clash set for Saturday 17 May.
Bears Head of Women’s Laura MacLeod said her side won’t underestimate their minor counties opponents.
She said: “It’s an exciting new-look competition that may well throw u some surprise results. We want to make sure we’re not one of those shocks. It’s definitely a chance to win the first silverware of the season.
“Some could see it as a favourable draw, but a game away from home comes with added pressure and uncertainty, so we’ll need to be focused.”
A trip to Devon or Dorset would be somewhat of a homecoming for new Bears Women signing Nat Wraith.
The batter-wicketkeeper is no stranger to the two sides having faced them in her county days before being an ever-present for former regional side Western Storm.
She said: “I have played Devon and Dorset a few times. It’ll be nice to go back to West Country if it’s Devon. Playing a game away to open up this new competition is something we can be excited about as a squad.”
Bears Women recently unveiled their 15-player squad ahead of their first season as a Tier 1 side in a new-look, full- professional national women’s structure.
In addition to the County Cup, they will also compete in The Vitality Blast T20 and the Metro Bank One Day Cup,
