Bears Women Katie George, Issy Wong, Georgia Davis and Hannah Baker have been selected for an England Women training camp in Abu Dhabi.

The quartet are among a 15-player England Women Cricket Pathway squad that flies out today (27 Feb) until 8 March.

Seamers George and Wong were recently announced as part of an England Pace Bowling Performance Programme designed to develop quicks currently outside the core England Women central contract list.

The camp is seen as a chance for the six players on the Programme to continue their development and for the whole squad hone their skills in overseas conditions and in some competitive scenario practice.

Bears Women First Team Coach Ali Maiden, said: “Katie and Issy will hugely benefit from the camp; it’s an opportunity to get some solid match practice on grass. They will come back sharp and ready to go ahead of our season opener on 23 April.

“For Issy, it’s another step towards her back performing as one of the best seamers in the country and for Katie to continue her progress and rehab from injury last year. It will help her achieve the goal of being fully fit and at her best in the early part of the 2025 season.”

Ryana MacDonald-Gay (Surrey), Grace Potts (Lancashire), Emma Jones (Surrey), and Alexa Stonehouse (Surrey) are the other four players on the specialist pace programme.

The squad includes a number of players who represented England in last year’s tour of Ireland as well as Essex and former England Women U19 duo Grace Scrivens and Jodi Grewcock.

England Women Performance Pace Bowling Coach Chris Liddle said: “We are really looking forward to this camp in Abu Dhabi, which will be an important training block for all 15 players in a warm environment, training on grass.

“Within the player group, we are also excited for the next phase of our pace programme and getting the players exposed to scenario training and the challenges that it brings.

“We have seen some great improvements over the winter in each player and this camp provides a further step in their growth, allowing improvements made already to be developed under further pressure.”
