The Vitality Blast returns in May with a new, revamped schedule and group structure that will culminate in back-to-back Finals Days for the first time in T20 cricket history.
Both Warwickshire Bears teams get their tournaments underway on Friday 22 May, with the Women away to Essex, and the Men in Bristol facing Gloucestershire.
But it’s on Sunday 24 May that the show really starts, with a double header against Somerset, getting EdgBLASTon’s summer started in style. Click here to register for priority.
Arguably, the highlight of the summer will be the hotly anticipated Bears v Pears local derby on Friday 26 June. Over 2,000 tickets have already been sold for the fixture, which has been the heartbeat of Midlands cricket for generations.
Bears Women will be looking to go one step further than last year, when they fought all the way to the Final before eventually being beaten by Surrey. This year’s Women’s Vitality Blast final is scheduled to take place at the Kia Oval on Friday 17 July, followed by the Men’s competition, which will once again be hosted at Edgbaston, on Saturday 18 July.
It was an excellent campaign from the Bears throughout, with tense finishes and dominant displays, no more than the semi-final against The Blaze.
The Bears cruised to victory by 20 runs, with Issy Wong the star, first hitting 59 off 38 balls and then following it up with a remarkable 4-14 with the ball, including taking the final wicket to secure victory.
With each member of the squad playing an integral part in last year’s success, there will certainly be belief in the camp that this year could be theirs.
Bears Men will be able to approach the season with newfound vigour and purpose thanks to a busy winter of recruitment.
The additions of overseas giant Beau Webster, pace-bowler Nathan Gilchrist and the all-round abilities of Jordan Thompson will add valuable strength and depth to the side.
And let’s not forget the return of one wizard, Chris Woakes, who recently provided a reminder of what he has to offer in the shortest format for Sylhet Titans.
