Birmingham Phoenix have completed their squad for the 2026 season of The Hundred after securing ten players at the Auction in London today, including four six-figure additions.
Men’s Head Coach Shane Bond cast his eye over proceedings from the Birmingham Phoenix auction table and made his first move in securing England fast bowler Saqib Mahmood for £150,000, and followed that up with Pakistan spinner Usman Tariq for £140,000 as the bowling attack was quickly enhanced.
Wicket-keeper batsman Joe Clarke was the next player acquired for £85,000, meaning he will return to Edgbaston after also wearing Phoenix colours last year, along with batter Will Smeed, who will continue his long association with the Phoenix after being signed for £55,000.
Bond and Performance Director James Thomas, along with Assistant Coach James Foster and Data Analyst Dan Weston, took the lunch break to assess areas they still needed to strengthen in the afternoon session, and quickly came out the blocks once the auction resumed.
Warwickshire all-rounder Jordan Thompson will spend the entirety of his summer at Edgbaston after being picked up by the Phoenix for £60,000, strengthening the bowling attack further, before Bond made his biggest signing of the day.
There was a bidding war for all-rounder Scott Currie, with Phoenix going head-to-head with Welsh Fire, Southern Brave and finally Trent Rockets, before coming out on top and securing his services for £210,000.
Experienced wicket-keeper Laurie Evans was the next man to join the Phoenix, beating Southern Brave to his signature for £85,000, then welcoming Chris Wood back to Edgbaston for £70,000.
In the third and final phase of the auction, teams were required to nominate players for selection, with the Phoenix paying £70,000 for bowling all-rounder Ethan Brookes.
The Phoenix’s tenth and final signing of the day was the eye-catching addition of Bangladeshi left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman for £100,000, securing death bowling prowess to add to Bond’s seam attack.
The players signed in the auction will join the retained Jacob Bethell, who was announced as Phoenix captain earlier this week, and direct signings Rehan Ahmed, Donovan Ferreira and Mitch Owen, who were all signed pre-auction.
