Warwickshire Bears Sophie Beech and Bryony Gillgrass have been included in a 16-strong squad for a tri-series against Australia and Sri Lanka.

The squad flew to Australia yesterday, where they will play six games, one 50-over game and two T20s against both the hosts and Sri Lanka.

Both products of Warwickshire’s academy, Beech made her professional debut last season against Surrey in the Metro Bank One Day Cup. Gillgrass is yet to feature professionally for the Bears, but alongside Beech played in the second tier of Women’s domestic cricket for Worcestershire Rapids.

Head Coach Chris Guest said: “We’ve worked with this group of players across the winter and the next stage of their development is to play competitive games of cricket against other nations.

“It will be nice to see the players put into practice areas that they have worked on through the winter both individually and as a team. It’s equally exciting to spend more time developing further through a really competitive tri-series against two good teams.

“Visiting Australia is always a good step forward in a player’s development, and it tests you out in new conditions. We’re really looking forward to it and it’s a trip that I’m sure will be hugely beneficial to the playing group.”
