Warwickshire County Cricket Club are delighted to announce the signing of highly rated young talent Charlie Taylor, one of the most promising emerging players in the English game.
The 16-year-old bowler has signed a two-year rookie contract which comes into effect from July 1, which will then be extended by a full-time professional contract until the end of the 2028 season.
Taylor’s cricketing journey began at just seven years old with Alcester & Ragley Cricket Club, where he progressed through every junior age group and went on to represent the club across senior cricket. His talent was quickly recognised at county level, and by the age of nine he had entered the Warwickshire age group pathway, making his first appearances in the Under 10s.
His rapid development continued with selection onto the Warwickshire Emerging Player Programme (EPP) at just 14 years of age, the same season he made his Under 18s debut. That year also saw him earn a place in the Warwickshire Academy, underlining his status as one of the county’s outstanding young prospects.
On the national stage, Taylor represented his region at the prestigious ECB Bunbury Festival, featuring at Under 15 level in both 2024 and 2025. His leadership qualities were on full display in 2025, when he captained his side during the tournament.
In 2025, aged only 15, Taylor marked another major milestone by making his Warwickshire Second XI debut, an appearance that showcased his potential immediately as he claimed four wickets against senior opposition.
Later that year, he received an England Young Lions call-up for the home series against Bangladesh, further recognition of his growing reputation nationally. Taylor was also selected for the subsequent West Indies series ahead of the ICC Under-19 World Cup, though an untimely injury limited his involvement.
Ahead of the 2025 season, Charlie moved clubs to join Barnards Green CC, competing in the Birmingham & District Premier Cricket League, a move designed to support both his cricketing development and his studies at Malvern College.
James Thomas, Warwickshire Cricket Performance Director, said: “Developing players through the Warwickshire Pathway and into the first team is a key objective here at Warwickshire and we are therefore delighted to secure the signing of Charlie.
“Charlie is one of the most promising young players in English cricket and we have high hopes for him. Warwickshire has a proven track record of bringing players through the pathway, the latest of which being Jacob Bethell and Dan Mousley, and we want to give Charlie the environment and the tools to make the most of his potential in the years to come.”
The signing of Taylor represents a significant coup for Warwickshire, securing the services of a high-ceiling young cricketer with county and international experience. The club looks forward to supporting his continued development and welcoming him into the setup.
