Warwickshire Women Head Coach, Ali Maiden, is hoping his team can continue to build confidence after winning earlier this week when they take on Yorkshire in the Metro Bank One Day Cup on Saturday 16 May.
Maiden’s team produced an impressive display last time out against Lancashire, successfully chasing 227 at Old Trafford to win for the second time in three games.
That result saw the Bears climb up to fourth in the table, and with the trip to Scarborough on Saturday being the last in the competition before a month-long break, Maiden wants his players to continue building the belief that played a key role in their win against Lancashire.
“Momentum is really important in this game,” he said. “A win like we had on Wednesday gives you the belief that you can go on and win again.
“Ultimately, it’s about people stepping up and it’s another big game on Saturday at Scarborough.
“It’ll be about people going out there and making big contributions like Mary [Taylor] did and like Charis [Pavely] did earlier this week, and that gets you in the position to win games. I think we’re building belief that we can do that.”
Yorkshire have several standout players, including leading wicket-taker in the competition, Jess Jonassen, however Maiden is focussing on his side and what they can do to impact the game.
“On Wednesday we focussed less about the result, but on doing certain things in the game as a team, which I think is more important,” he added.
“We’ll try not to get caught up in it being a big game and that we have to win it. We’ll try to focus on us and being the best version of ourselves, and that will put us in the best position to win the game.
“We talked after Wednesday about building on, not just the result, but how we went about it – the teamwork, communication and the composure that was involved. We’ll try to do more of the same on Saturday.”
Play gets under way at Scarborough Cricket Club at 10:30am on Saturday 16 May, with the teams due to be announced at the toss.
