How it works

Selected secondary schools across Birmingham will enter mixed teams made up of Years 7–9 students to compete in a fast-paced tape ball cricket competition inspired by modern entertainment-led sport.

Each team will be paired with a celebrity, athlete, influencer or content creator and take part in training sessions before competing in the Birmingham Phoenix Tape Ballers Festival Day.

Every selected player will receive:

  • A customised Birmingham Phoenix playing shirt
  • Opportunities to feature in social media content
  • Access to surprise guests, creators and ambassadors

Team Format

  • Up to 10-player squads
  • 8 players per game
  • Minimum 4 female players required in every squad

The competition is designed to encourage inclusive and mixed participation in cricket.

Key Information

Selected schools must commit to:

  • Two after-school training sessions
  • Festival Day on Monday 6 July
  • Supporting content and engagement opportunities throughout the programme

Matches and activities may be filmed, photographed and shared across Birmingham Phoenix and social media channels. Schools must ensure parent/carer media consent is obtained for all players.

Schools will be selected based on:

  • Inclusivity
  • Student impact
  • Engagement and commitment
  • Barriers to accessing cricket opportunities

School Application Questions

Schools are also encouraged to submit a 60–90 second video showcasing their students, school community and why they should be selected for the Birmingham Phoenix Tape Ballers League.

Please email video submissions to [email protected] with your school name included in the subject line.
