Jordan Thompson was pleased to contribute with the bat on day three of Warwickshire’s Rothesay County Championship fixture with Glamorgan, as he notched his first half-century for the Bears.

The right arm quick was part of a 79-run stand with Ethan Bamber which helped the Bears earn an extra batting point and surpass the follow-on mark after a testing first two days at Edgbaston Stadium.

Thompson, whose 57 came off 61 balls and included four fours and two sixes, says positive intent was important when the pair came to the crease with Warwickshire 141 for seven.

“It was important for me personally to get some runs,” he said.

“I feel like I’ve batted okay this year, and haven’t felt in any trouble at times, but to go out there and put a valuable partnership on with Ethan was nice.

“It was about making sure we were positive. I think on that pitch if you sit in, there’s probably one [a ball] with your name on it. It’s a little slower than it was against Yorkshire last week.

“I loved Ethan’s intent when he came out. He just took it to them, and it took a bit of pressure off me and allowed me to bat a bit of time.”

Thompson returned later in the day, bowling an economical seven over spell that despite going wicketless, went for just 11 runs, as Glamorgan looked to press home their advantage.

The 27-year-old though, was keen to single out Bamber, as his four wickets gave the Bears an outside chance at forcing a positive result heading into day four.

“I’ve played against him for a few years now and he’s always a bowler you’ve got to be wary of,” he added. “He doesn’t give up.

“He’s there or there abouts all the time. It just goes to show today with his four wickets and he’s contributing with the bat as well, so he’s turning into a genuine all-round cricketer.

“They’ve got to come back out tomorrow morning, put a score on the board and give us a target to go at.”

Day four gets under way at 11:00am, with Glamorgan leading by 300 runs with five second innings wickets remaining.
