Usman Tariq is hoping to hit the ground running when he makes his Warwickshire Bears debut against Gloucestershire at the Seat Unique Stadium tomorrow night, as the 2026 Vitality Blast gets under way.
The Pakistan star, who signed for the Bears earlier this year, arrived in the country last week and will make his first appearance on British shores when play starts in Bristol tomorrow.
Tariq made his international debut last year and has gone on to take 18 wickets at an average of 11 since with his off-spin, and having been welcomed in by the team, he’s looking forward to carrying on that good form with the Bears.
“The first impressions have been really good,” he said. “The people here are so warm and so caring. It’s been a great welcome and they’ve made me feel very at home.
“I know bowling in the UK can be challenging for the spinner especially, so I know this will be a good challenge for me, to give my best and learn a lot.
“I’ll definitely try to lead from the front and give my best so that we can have some good results. I’ll be giving 100% to achieve what the team expect from me.”
Tariq says he’s been impressed by the quality of the squad from his first impressions in training and expects the side to produce positive results in the coming weeks.
“There’s plenty of talent that I’m watching, and it’s a very good squad,” he added. “The main thing that helps a team to grow is when they are together and they gel.
“That’s the factor I’ve seen in this team already, that the guys are friendly and close to each other, they’re supporting each other and they’re having good conversations.
“Chris Woakes is here, the skipper, Ed Barnard himself is really a good person. There are so many new talents, new faces and I’m sure that they will grow.
“We’re going to have some good results with this team for sure.”
Warwickshire Bears against Gloucestershire takes place at the Seat Unqiue Stadium in Bristol at 7:00pm on Friday 22 May, with the teams set to be announced at the toss.
