Warwickshire all-rounder, Beau Webster, was delighted to contribute to the Bears’ first victory of the 2026 Vitality Blast after scoring a brilliant 112 against Somerset in Taunton.
The Australian international’s blistering 112 came off just 61 deliveries with 9 fours and 7 sixes, and was part of a 145-run third wicket partnership with Dan Mousley, who weighed in with an unbeaten 36-ball 71 as the Bears reached a victory target of 216 with two balls to spare.
Reigning Blast champions, Somerset, had earlier posted 215 for four from their 20 overs, thanks to an unbeaten 90 by South African Jordan Hermann and 55 not out from captain Lewis Gregory. Jordan Thompson was the pick of the Bears bowlers, taking two for 32.
In reply, the Bears lost opener Zen Malik with the score on two, before Rob Yates added early impetus to the chase with a 15-ball 24.
When he was dismissed with the score on 46, Mousley joined Webster at the crease, and the duo took the game away from the hosts in a 12 over partnership that saw Warwickshire reach 191 before losing their third wicket.
Needing 24 from the last two overs, Mousley then hit three fours and a six in the penultimate over, before seeing his side over the line with two balls to spare.
Webster said despite recent results, the team felt confident going into the chase on a fast-scoring ground in Taunton.
“We know at this ground it’s hard to defend,” he said. “Especially after seeing how well Somerset scored at the back end to set a good total.
“I was confident. Rob [Yates] got us off to a great start and when Dan [Mousley] came in and did what he did, it took a lot of pressure off me.
“Dan played a hell of a hand. He was excellent I thought through the middle there.
“It’s nice to get a win. I don’t know where seven wins from seven gets us. It’s probably not enough, but we’re still going to turn out, we’re still going to give it our all and try and get a bit of respect back.
“It’s a nice feeling in the dressing room when you win, no doubt.”
Webster admitted that the team aren’t in the position they would like to be in through six games but says this result can be a catalyst for the remainder of the season.
“It was a great win for the boys,” he added. “We needed it.
“We’ve been pretty poor. I think everyone can put their hand up on that, but we’re going really well in the County Championship.
“The County Championship has been a big positive and we can take plenty of momentum from this.”
The Bears have a break from Vitality Blast cricket, before they return on Friday 26 June when they take on local rivals Worcestershire Rapids at Edgbaston.
