Warwickshire County Cricket Club opening bowler Ethan Bamber is expecting an exciting final day of their Rothesay County Championship fixture against Yorkshire, with all three results still possible.

Leading by 206 after the first innings, Yorkshire opted against enforcing the follow-on in Scarborough and instead compiled 246 for six in their second innings before declaring, setting the Bears 452 for victory across three and a half sessions.

Heading into the final day, Warwickshire require 409 for victory, while Yorkshire need nine wickets after they removed in-form Rob Yates prior to the close on day three.

Bamber, who is one not out after going in as Warwickshire’s night watchman, says it’s set up to be an interesting final day.

“The task is very clear,” he said. “It will be exciting that’s for sure.

“You can never question the effort of this team or the application. And that’s certainly going to be required. Skill will be the other part of it.”

Bamber has picked up five wickets this week, increasing his tally for the season to 34, making him the leading wicket-taker in Division One.

The right arm quick was pleased with how the side bounced back on day three, to give themselves an outside chance of victory.

“We had a job to do, to try and take wickets and draw out the game as long as possible,” he added. “I thought we did that to a decent level.

“There was a little bit there with the new ball, but they played nicely. Jonny Bairstow and George Hill played really well. Manav [Suthar] bowled beautifully for us.

“We were disappointed with how we bowled first innings. We weren’t at our best, and that’s led us to being behind the game. I thought the boys did well.”

The final day of Warwickshire’s Rothesay County Championship fixture against Yorkshire gets under way today at 11:00am at Scarborough Cricket Club.
