Birmingham Phoenix is set to transform York Road Recreation Ground into a hub of cricketing energy this summer, with the York Road Cricket Takeover taking place on Sunday 28 June in the heart of Kings Heath.

Delivered in partnership with the Warwickshire Cricket Foundation, this exciting community event promises a full day of activity and opportunity for young people across Birmingham, culminating in free, open play sessions for all between 2:00pm and 4:30pm.

The day will showcase a strong pipeline of junior participation, with over 120 young people taking part in structured sessions designed to introduce, develop and celebrate cricket:

  • 10:00–11:00 | All Stars Session
    30 boys and girls aged 5–8 from local clubs including Moseley Ashfield CC and Kings Heath CC will kick-off proceedings with a fun, skills-based session.
  • 11:00–12:00 | Dynamos Intros Session
    30 participants aged 8–11 from local free-to-play community programmes will take their next steps in the game.
  • 12:00–13:00 | Girls Only Dynamos
    A dedicated session for 30 girls aged 8–11, highlighting the continued growth of the female game, with participants from community clubs including Moseley Ashfield CC and Kings Heath CC.
  • 13:00–14:00 | Local Primary Schools
    30 pupils from primary schools across Moseley and Kings Heath will get the chance to experience cricket in a fun, inclusive environment.

From 2:00pm to 4:30pm, the event opens up with free play sessions, giving families, young people and the wider community the chance to come along, pick up a bat and ball, and get involved in the Birmingham Phoenix experience.
