Katie George is hoping Warwickshire Bears Women can continue their good form in the Metro Bank One Day Cup when they travel to take on Somerset in Exmouth on Wednesday 17 June.

George made an instant impact on her return to the Bears line-up for their thrilling 20-run win against Lancashire following a spell on the sidelines due to injury.

The 27-year-old scored a scintillating 127 off just 97 balls as Warwickshire put up 314 for seven in their 50 overs, before dismissing the Red Rose for 294, a result that gave them a third win a row in the competition.

“Having been away for a few weeks, you never quite know how you’re going to come back,” George said.

“I felt in a good place pre-injury, so I was keen to come back into the team and try to contribute to an important win against Lancs.

“It puts us nicely in the table, so we’re very pleased. Everyone’s in good spirits.

“There’s a really exciting little buzz around the group again which is nice, because it’s not always easy to keep that buzz when you’re losing a few games. Everyone’s keen to get down to the hotel tonight and we’re looking forward to tomorrow.”

The Bears face a Somerset team that have compiled a season of two halves so far in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

Having won their opening three fixtures, they have since lost six a row, but George is well-aware of the threat they pose on one of Somerset’s out-grounds in Exmouth.

“Lots of hard work and grit are a couple of things you can always expect from Somerset,” George added.

“We’ve had some good games against them over the years, and they’ve gone both ways in terms of results.

“We know it’s a tough task, but I think we’ve got a lot of confidence from the last game, and how we’ve been going about our 50 over cricket. We feel in a good place to hopefully come away with a win.

“These out-grounds are always cool to play at. Obviously Taunton is a very nice place to play cricket and we know conditions there quite well. Exmouth is a little unknown. I think the drive home on the M5 will be a lot sweeter with a win on the board, so that’s what we’ll be trying to achieve.”

Warwickshire take on Somerset at The Maer Ground in Exmouth on Wednesday 17 June, with play starting at 10:30am. Teams will be announced at the toss.
