Birmingham Phoenix will be looking to add extra firepower to their The Hundred line-ups when the Vitality Wildcard Draft takes place tomorrow.
Both Phoenix Men and Women can select two additional players in a draft-style format on Thursday 18 June, to bolster their squads.
The first ever Hundred mega auction took place in March, with the opening fixtures of this year’s competition now just over a month away.
Players available for the Wildcard Draft are decided based on their form in the Vitality Blast. If a player has impressed over the opening weeks of the domestic T20 competition, they will have the opportunity to be snapped up by one of the franchises, including the Birmingham Phoenix. Due to Lucy Hamilton being withdrawn from The Hundred, Phoenix are permitted to draft an overseas player.
With time to assess their squads since the auction, the Wildcard picks provide a final chance to add quality and depth to their team.
The eight franchise teams will pick in order, with Phoenix picking first in the women’s draft, while Phoenix Men will pick fourth.
Unlike the auction, there’s no bidding for players, with the base price in the men’s competition set at £31,000, and the base price in the women’s set at £15,000.
Following the auction, the Phoenix added the likes of international stars Usman Tariq, Ellyse Perry, Mustafizur Rahman and Alana King, as well as home grown stars such as Saqib Mahmood, Alice Capsey, Scott Currie and Tammy Beaumont.
