Second XI Trophy Report: Warwickshire v Yorkshire
Will Rhodes and Josh Poysden helped Warwickshire continue their fine form in the Second XI Trophy with a 12 run victory over Yorkshire at Edgbaston.
Put into bat, the Bears reached 167 for four after 26.2 overs with Dom Sibley (51), Andy Umeed (32) and Thomson (30) unable to substantially add to their impressive starts.
But Rhodes, batting at four, was able to bat long and with solid support from Josh Poysden (27) and Oli Hannon-Dalby (8*) at the death, he reached a sumptuous 107 from 91 with 13 fours and two sixes.
Needing 288 to win, Yorkshire themselves found decent starts at the top of the order, but a devastating spell from Poysden (10-1-30-3) helped remove three out of the top four in the order.
With a short boundary in front of the Eric Hollies Stand, the total would have been inviting for the visitors, but regular wickets from Boyd Rankin (10-0-56-2), Chris Wright (10-0-54-1), Sibley (4-0-33-1) and a late run-out from Hannon-Dalby (10-1-48-1) meant the Bears squeezed a win with Yorkshire nine down at the end of play.
Warwickshire’s final Second XI Trophy game is against MCC YC’s on the main ground at Edgbaston on Thursday 31st May. The Bears currently sit top of the North Group with four wins out of five and a win against the Young Cricketers would guarantee a semi-final place.
