Second XI Championship Report: Warwickshire v Leicestershire
A declaration from each side teed up a chase of 270 for the Foxes on the final day and they finished on 185 for nine.
The Bears’ victory-bid had been set up by attractive runs in both innings for first-year pro Dan Mousley. The 17-year-old’s first innings century (122, 180 balls, 20 fours), supported by Alex Mellor’s 50 (85 balls, nine fours, one six) lifted Warwickshire to 290 which meant a first-innings lead of 128 after the Foxes declared on 162 for three (Bailey Wightman three for 30).
Mousley then hit ten fours in a quickfire 54 which, along with Liam Banks’ unbeaten 53, enabled the Bears to declare at 141 for one.
Wightman was again among the wickets with three for 61 and George Garrett took three for 35 but the Foxes hung on for a draw.
