Warwickshire County Cricket Club has moved its upcoming Second XI Championship match against Worcestershire to Edgbaston and the game will be played under floodlights.
The fixture was originally scheduled to be played at Barnt Green CC from 15-17 August, but the move will now see it staged at Edgbaston a week later on 22-24 August.
Players will use a pink Dukes ball for two innings of the match and a pink Kookaburra ball for two innings as part of the trial which has been agreed following discussions with the ECB.
Neil Snowball, Chief Executive of Warwickshire County Cricket Club, said: “The concept of day/night cricket has attracted a large amount of interest around the world and we are keen to support the ECB by exploring the potential for these fixtures in England and Wales.
“We have a long tradition of staging day/night cricket on this ground and this trial game will provide valuable insights for everyone interested in broadening the audience for our First Class game.”
ECB’s Head of Cricket Operations (First Class), Alan Fordham said: “Staging First Class Matches under lights with a pink ball is a format which has worked well elsewhere in the cricketing world and it’s important we consider ways in which we can attract more people to First Class cricket in the long-term. We’ll be monitoring this trial match closely and we would like to thank Warwickshire for their support in hosting the fixture.”
Entry to Warwickshire’s Second XI Championship match with Worcestershire at Edgbaston from 22 to 24 August will be free to all spectators.
