Edgbaston is set to host the NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day yet again next year on Saturday 2 September as one of the most iconic sporting events in the British calendar returns to the ‘Home of Finals Day’.
Tickets are on-sale priced from just £46 for Adults and £16 for Juniors for the biggest day in the domestic calendar and is growing in demand each year with tickets for this year’s event selling out in record timing.
This week we wanted to look back and re-live the 2016 T20 Finals Day as Northants Steelbacks blasted their way to their second T20 title in four years.
Semi-Final 1: Northants Steelbacks v Notts Outlaws
A career-best T20 score from Ben Duckett powered Northants into the NatWest Blast T20 final for the third time in four years after beating Notts by 8 runs.
Northants overcame a Nottinghamshire side that came into finals day having won their last nine T20 matches and containing nine international players which included Alex Hales, Stuart Broad and Andre Russell.
Northants looked unlikely victors when, 14 balls into the game, they had subsided to 15 for 3. But in partnership with captain Alex Wakely, Duckett helped add 132 in 82 balls showed once again why he is one of the highest-rated young batsmen in county cricket.
Semi-Final 2: Durham Jets v Yorkshire Vikings
Mark Wood’s menace got Durham into a NatWest Blast semi-final – and there was no let-up once Finals Day dawned as he bowled Durham to a stunning seven-run victory against Yorkshire in a high-quality match at Edgbaston.
Wood ended Yorkshire’s hopes of a treble with figures of 4 for 25, his best in T20, in three excellent spells delivered to order for Durham’s captain Paul Collingwood.
This star-studded fixture included some of the biggest names in domestic cricket such as Ben Soke, Paul Collingwood, Mark Wood as well as Yorkshire’s David Willey, Joe Root, Gary Balance, Jonny Bairstow, Tim Bresnan and Liam Plunkett.
Final: Northants Steelbacks v Durham Jets
Northants won the T20 Blast for the second time as brilliant batting by Josh Cobb steered them to a four-wicket victory over Durham at Edgbaston.
After Ben Stokes went early for 18, Keaton Jennings hit 88 off 58 balls before Cobb pulled off a stunning catch to remove him as Durham made 153-8.
Northants were 9-3 in reply, but Cobb hit three sixes in a 26-ball fifty. He put on 120 with Alex Wakely (43) and departed for 80 just before Northants reached 155-6 with five balls to spare.

It was an unforgettable day with a range of whacky fancy dress, the notorious mascot race, renowned Edgbaston atmosphere and big hitting cricket. A total of 23,893 spectators were in attendance for this year’s T20 Finals Day which was a sell-out and it was the biggest demand on tickets with the event selling out before any semi-finalists were confirmed.
