Earlier today, young cricket fans from were treated to some world class coaching from the Australian cricket team at Edgbaston as part of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Cricket for Good coaching clinic.
The clinics are part of an initiative with Warwickshire Cricket Board in celebration of Edgbaston hosting five of the biggest matches of the ICC’s Champions Trophy tournament. Today Australian players Aaron Finch, John Hastings, Moisés Henriques and James Pattinson were on hand to give 20 children the coaching experience of a lifetime.
Ravi Masih, Head of Community Engagement at Warwickshire County Cricket Club said: “So many of the world’s best cricketers are in Birmingham for the ICC Champions Trophy so we are thrilled to be able to offer these children such a fantastic opportunity. We are grateful these stars took time out of their hectic training schedules to offer something so valuable.
“The youngsters took lots of great tips and skills away from the session and we hope many will take enough inspiration to play for Warwickshire, or even star in an ICC Champions Trophy themselves in future years.”
Cricket for Good is an ICC scheme in partnership with UNICEF aimed as using the sport to raise awareness of health issues impacting on children across the globe. Further sessions are due to happen with local school children at Edgbaston during the course of the tournament.
