On Sunday, the eight new women’s teams in The Hundred each announced the signing of a marquee player live from The Hundred Draft.

Birmingham Phoenix announced hard-hitting New Zealand all-rounder Sophie Devine who will join Amy Jones and Kirstie Gordon as the two England women’s centrally contracted players.

The 30-year-old broke the international record (men or women) for the fastest T20 half-century (from 18 balls), and fastest 70 runs (from 22 balls), which included scoring 32 off one over in the first match against India in 2015.

The right-hander also holds the record for scoring the fastest-ever fifty in Women’s Twenty20 International (WT20I) history (from 18 balls).

Chosen from a 570-strong player pool, top order batsman Liam Livingstone was the first player picked. Joining him is all-rounder Ravi Bopara and New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson, who was picked from the international player pool.

Vettori quickly snapped up Benny Howell and Tom Helm, joining existing teammates England international Chris Woakes and fellow World Cup winner Moeen Ali, who were selected in the first stage of the draft process, earlier this month. The men’s team, based at Edgbaston, will face seven other teams in the competition when it starts in Summer 2020.
