The e cup
Edgbaston Stadium understands how important sustainability is and works hard to make sure the products we use are responsibly sourced whist reducing our carbon footprint.
For 2016 Edgbaston has decided to take the next step by introducing their e cup. This reusable plastic cup will replace all disposable cups at the Stadium and will prevent thousands of plastic disposable cups going into landfill.
Green-Goblet, who supply the e cup, are bowled over that Edgbaston are going to make their pint greener, and with the help of their fans, are going to be able to reduce the volume of waste at the Stadium and lower their carbon footprint.
Craig Flindall Director of Warwickshire County Cricket Club & Edgbaston Experience said “Edgbaston is committed to reducing the environmental impact of our Match days and the introduction of the e cup will substantially reduce the amount of plastic waste we generate on our big days. Spectators will be able to use the new e cups at the first NatWest T20 Blast game versus Worcestershire Rapids on 27 May following, which we will roll the scheme out across the rest of T20 season and international fixtures”.
As an opener matchday spectators will now pay a £1 deposit for their e cup with their first drink. Every subsequent drink will be poured into a clean e cup, and when the visitor has finished drinking, they can either keep the e cup as a souvenir or return it to an e cup refund point in exchange for their deposit.
The e cups can be reused many times over and then at the end of their life they are recycled into other useful objects.
