Colin de Grandhomme had an explosive first year with the Birmingham Bears, playing in 16 of the Bears’ T20 Blast games and scoring 322 runs at a strike rate of 170.32. To celebrate CDG’s return we thought that we’d take a trip down memory lane and look back at some of his best bits from the 2017 season which saw the Bears go all the way to T20 Blast Finals Day.

Final over drama vs Notts Outlaws

Colin was in the thick of the action from the very start of the Bears’ home games at Edgbaston. The Bears needed 40 from the last five overs and Grant Elliott and Rikki Clarke took 15 off the first of them. Elliott’s 38 (22 balls, four fours, one six) saw his side to the brink of a victory but the Outlaws dug deep and five runs from the last over, bowled by Christian, came down to one from the last ball, from which Colin De Grandhomme and Clarke scrambled the single to secure victory.

CDG goes big vs Northants Steelbacks

Aaron Thomason might have stole all the headlines in this game as he held his nerve to defend 13 from the final over for victory Northamptonshire but it was CDG who provided a rapid 37 runs from 16 balls earlier in the game that helped the Bears set their target before the thrilling finale. His knock which included 3 fours and 3 sixes saw de Grandhomme race along at a strike rate 231.25 as he struck Ben Sanderson for three successive fours and also smashed three huge sixes before falling to a catch at deep mid-wicket.

Close but no Cigar in the T20 Blast Final

The Birmingham Bears’ superb T20 Blast campaign culminated in the runners-up spot after they lost out to Notts Outlaws by 22 runs in the final at Edgbaston. Despite taking the wicket of Brendon Taylor and scoring a rapid 27 runs from just 19 balls (142.11 strike rate) Colin was unable to help the Bears lift the trophy in a thrilling T20 Blast Final.
