Warwickshire chose to field against Yorkshire after winning the toss and saw Geldart 45 and Callis 27 post a half century first wicket partnership before Parker and Brookes reduced the visitors to 151-6 just after lunch.

Rafiq and Barnes added 74 for the seventh wicket, before Singh 4-31 mopped up the tail to dismiss Yorkshire for 261 in the 65th over with Parker taking 4-45.

There was time for 39 overs of the Warwickshire reply before stumps when Westwood was unbeaten on sixty four after Umeed had fallen early for four and Banks 26 with Lamb 29 followed.

On the second, Westwood and Thomason took their overnight fledgling partnership on to 244 with both men completing centuries, Thomason finally bowled by Carver for 136 while Westwood now partnered by wicket keeper Mellor 51* figured in another century partnership for the fifth wicket going to tea undefeated on 230 with Warwickshire 502-4 before a deluge during the interval prevented any further play.

Warwickshire declared on their overnight total with a first innings lead of 241 and in their second innings, Yorkshire built their response around an innings of 125 from Callis who shared half century stands with Gibson 21 and Waite 33 before a century partnership with Barnes for the seventh wicket wiped out their first innings deficit

With Thornton taking 3-37, Yorkshire were finally dismissed for 296 in the 91st over leaving Warwickshire seven overs to score 56 for victory.

Yorkshires opening bowlers Wainman and Barnes were given the task of preventing Warwickshire’s victory and as the home side’s batsmen threw everything into the chase, wickets tumbled with no-one able to make a decisive score. Only Thomason and Mellor managing to get into double figures as Warwickshire ran out of time still thirteen short having lost seven wickets with Wainman taking 5-24 from his four overs.

Once again the session lost to the rain proved decisive, probably deniying Warwickshire victory
