Three outstanding performances, supported by good all-round fielding and bowling helped Warwickshire to a comfortable seven wicket victory over Derbyshire in the latest Second Eleven Trophy match of the season for Warwickshire’s Second XI.
Derbyshire, beaten by Warwickshire in the Championship match earlier in the week, won the toss and chose to bat, with ex- Bear, Tom Milne opening the batting and prattling up a quick-fire 38 from just 33 deliveries, sharing in an opening partnership of 55 in nine overs with wicket-keeper Hosen before being run out by Spencer’s throw.
Wood 44 and Hosen 66 added 81 for the second wicket but once the second wicket pair had been separated by Poysden, only Cook 32 and Critchley 22, fresh from a century earlier in the week, made progress against the leg-spin of Josh Poysden, who finished with 5-47 from his ten overs as Derbyshire were dismissed for 239 with almost two overs unused.

Spencer 2-31 and Singh 1-33 were the other wicket takers in a strong fielding performance from Warwickshire.
In reply, Alex Mellor 1, went early, while Banks 12 and Thomason 28 go starts but were unable to turn ion winning individual scores, before Matthew Lamb, also a centurion in the Championship match, and Ateeq Javid came together in the 15th over with Warwickshire just stuttering on 51-3 in their chase.
Lamb, with 11 fours and two sixes completed his second century of the week just before the close and with Javid 87* shared in a match-winning unbroken partnership of 189 to steer Warwickshire home by seven wickets with more than four overs in hand.
