Warwickshire Women cruised to an emphatic 9-wicket victory vs Berkshire Cricket Board at North Maidenhead, where once again the Bears strong bowling attack decimated the opposition.
After Berkshire Cricket Board Womens 1st XI won toss and decided to bat and Warwickshire made an almost immediate impact as Laura Crofts took the wicket of opening bat Flack with her second ball. New Zealand all-rounder Sophie Devine also made an instant impact on her debut as she removed Berkshire’s other opener, Priest, just a few overs later.
Devine and Crofts had a very successful opening spell which saw Berkshire Cricket Board in real trouble at 26-5. Berkshire’s only real resistance came from their captain MacLeod, who batted well and attempted to put up some resistance while her teammates continued to fall around her. Once MacLeod eventually fell for 25 following a sharp catch from Katie Green, the home side were all but finished at 71-9.
Georgia Hennessy wrapped up the inning after dismissing Walker and the Bears excellent bowling had restricted Berkshire Cricket Board to just 73.
Warwickshire openers Amy Jones and Kathryn Bryce set about the task of knocking the Berkshire off and the pair played a very accomplished opening stand, wasting few balls and making runs wherever possible, a very positive start indeed. Bryce was dismissed LBW to Cunningham, Sophie Devine strode out to the middle to make her first knock as a Bear.
What ensued between Devine and Jones was nothing short of destructive. The pair found boundaries as if it were second nature, in fact Devine’s innings lasted just 8 minutes before the Bears had knocked off the total. Devine finished on 20* and Jones 34*, Amy Jones scored a brutal 24 form her last 5 balls faced!
This result sees Warwickshire Women remain top of the table, 14 points clear of 2nd place Lancashire and 19 points clear of Yorkshire (who have a game in hand). Up next for Warwickshire Women is an away fixture vs Middlesex at Merchant Taylor’s school.
