Bears continue to impress with the ball despite injuries.
Graeme Welch is delighted with how the bowling staff are taking adversity in their stride.
Hamstring injuries to Keith Barker and Olly Stone forced the duo to miss the away trip to Northants, which ended with a victory by an innings and 48 runs.
Key performances from the whole unit led to an unchanged line-up against Derbyshire and after starring previously with match figures of 10-106, Ryan Sidebottom picked-up a side strain that not only led to a strong team effort, but a clinical eight wicket victory.
“It was a great effort,” said the bowling coach. “Ryan left us in the lurch a little bit, but the lads stood up and it was a great performance.
“The way Henry Brookes, Jeets (Jeetan Patel) and Chris Wright bowled was pleasing – although Wrighty was unlucky – but he’ll keep getting his rewards if he keeps bowling like that.
“We’ve got bowling depth, Keith Barker and Olly Stone have had a hamstring injury and that’s a testament to the lads coming in and performing when called upon.”
One lad who has certainly caught the eye is 18-year old Henry Brookes.
The academy product made his debut against Essex last year, but his second appearance didn’t come until the away fixture at Northampton.
Match figures of 25.2 – 6 – 54 – 3 impressed the Warwickshire brass, before the fast bowler moved up another gear with career best figures of 4️ for 56.
“He’s been given his opportunity with Keith and Olly out and Henry has stood up brilliantly,” Welch added.
“In the second innings he bowled quick, he bowled straight, got the ball reversing and he’s a good prospect.
“There’s obviously competition for places and that’s what we ask them for to put performances in every single day and every single time they get on the field. That’s what Henry’s done, he’s took his chance and bowling really well.
“We’re trying to keep his feet on the ground at the moment and after three games he’s won two of them. He’s got about 10/11 wickets so far this year and he’s in a good place. Hopefully it’ll continue.”
