ECB National Lead Spin Coach Peter Such has delivered a masterclass to over 20 Warwickshire age-group coaches, passing on his knowledge to help develop the next generation of spinners in the county.

While Such spends most of his time working with talented youngsters on the England pathway, coach education also plays a key role in the work of the National Lead coaches.

In collaboration with Warwickshire CCC Academy Director Paul Greetham, Such visited Moseley CC on 20 May to pass on his knowledge and practices to coaches from the county’s Academy, Elite Player Pathway and county boys and girls teams.

Greetham said: “It’s great to get the National Leads’ experience for these sessions. Peter is working with the best young spinners in the country, so his knowledge and experience keeps us up to speed and gives us something to pass on to our younger players.

“Lots of people came away from the sessions saying they had some plans of how they’d run their next coaching sessions and feel more confident doing drills and one-to-one work with their young spin bowlers. It’s great to see these sessions provide immediate benefit for both the coaches and their players.”

Greetham organises these sessions on a regular basis throughout the year, with further masterclasses from the likes of Graeme Welch and Mark Ramprakash already in the bag this year.

Such said of his session: “An important part of my role is to pass on my knowledge to players and coaches alike. Sessions like this one with Warwickshire are great for ensuring the skills are in place to develop and nurture talented young spinners around the country. We have some exceptional coaches in our county pathways and it’s great to be able to support them like this.”
