Ahead of a special day that saw the Bears Women’s team win the Vitality County T20, captain Marie Kelly was presented with a special commemorative cap in recognition of her 100th appearance for the club.
Kelly, who reached the milestone in the previous week’s games away to Kent, was presented with the cap by fellow Bears and England centurion Ian Bell ahead of the opening game of the day, against Sussex, at the Edgbaston Community Sports Ground.
“Despite still only being only 23, Marie has enjoyed a tremendous career to date and is an outstanding leader,” said Warwickshire Women’s & Girl’s Performance Manager Laura MacLeod.
“It couldn’t be a more fitting tribute that she was recognised as the first player in Warwickshire and Birmingham Bears Women’s cricket to reach this milestone on the same day that we win our first piece of domestic silverware.
“She’s a true Bear and a fantastic role model for our many young players who she works with each week.”
As a product of the Bears pathway, Kelly progressed through the county age group teams before graduating from the Academy to make her senior debut in the Women’s One-Day County Championship against Cheshire in late-2011.
She firmly established herself in the team across both formats in the following season and was made captain in 2016.
