Dawid Malan’s half century helped England secure a four-wicket win over South Africa in the second Twenty20 international.
Malan’s 55 from 40 balls led England’s recovery from 83-4 as they chased 147 for victory to wrap up the series with a game to spare, after Jonny Bairstow’s unbeaten 86 off 48 balls saw the visitors to victory in the first T20.
Malan fell with 13 runs needed but captain Eoin Morgan (26 not out) marshalled his side over the line with one ball remaining. Jos Buttler earlier hit 22 off 15 balls.
South Africa earlier posted 146-6 as Adil Rashid took 2-23. The Proteas seemed to have the match in their grasp after spinner Tabraiz Shamsi took career-best figures of 3-19 in Paarl, but fell short in the key moments.
The final match of the series takes place in Cape Town on Tuesday at 4pm GMT, before the ODI series begins on Friday at Newlands at 11am GMT.
England return to Edgbaston in 2021 as the world champions take on Pakistan in a day/night ODI on Tuesday 13 July (provisional date). The ballot is now open and is the best way to secure tickets.
