Providing a safe and positive environment for everyone

Warwickshire County Cricket Club (WCCC)  strives to ensure that everyone in our care or attending our activities feel safe and free from the risk of harm.

WCCC  takes its safeguarding responsibilities very seriously and we are committed to creating a safe and positive environment for everyone.

We believe that everyone at WCCC shares the responsibility for safeguarding children and adults, so our policy and practices are applicable to everyone involved.

The staff and partners working with the club will work tirelessly to embed the culture of safeguarding across every aspect of WCCC  and its activity. We are committed to having the right people involved through a robust recruitment process which includes checks, training, and monitoring.

WCCC adheres to our regulatory requirements which are set by the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and we also work closely with the NSPCC and Local Children’s and Adults Safeguarding Board’s guidelines.

WCCC will develop and implement effective policy, procedure and good practice in order to protect all children, adults and other vulnerable people who attend our activities.

FAQ’s

If I have a safeguarding concern at my club – who should I contact?

Each club will have a dedicated Club Safeguarding Officer (CSO) and this person will be your first point of contact. You can also contact Thomas Cunningham-Smith, Warwickshire CCC Safeguarding Manager via safeguarding@edgbaston

What is a safeguarding concern?

A safeguarding issue or concern is anything that might impact on children and young people’ safety and welfare, cause them harm, or put them at risk of harm. Sometimes, a child or young person might tell someone about (or disclose) abuse or neglect. You might also notice signs of abuse or see something that worries you. Safeguarding issues or concerns also include things that can increase the risk of harm – for example, not following safer recruitment practices, having inadequate supervision or not carrying out proper risk assessment for online and offline activities.

If you think a child is in immediate danger, contact the police on 999. If you’re worried about a child but they are not in immediate danger, you should share your concerns.

  • Contact the NSPCC Helpline on 0808 800 5000 or by emailing help@nspcc.org.uk. Our child protection specialists will talk through your concerns with you and give you expert advice.
  • Contact your local child protection services. Their contact details can be found on the website for the local authority the child lives in.
  • Contact the police.

What qualifications do I need to be a Club Safeguarding Officer at my local club?

You will need to attend a Safe Hands training course run by your local County Cricket Club, a valid and up to date DBS and complete the relevant online training courses. For further details – please contact Thomas Cunningham-Smith, Warwickshire CCC Safeguarding Manager
