Tim Bresnan is looking forward to building his role as mentor to the younger players coming through in the Warwickshire squad.

Director of Cricket Paul Farbrace brought Bresnan to Edgbaston last summer because he is a winner. The former Yorkshire all-rounder has a spectacular history of success both with his county and England, whom he helped become World T20 Champions and world number one in Test cricket.

The 35-year old hit the ground running for the Bears on the field, impressing with both bat and ball in the truncated 2020 season. But alongside his on-field input, he has been recruited for the influence he can have on his team-mates – and that is a role that he is thoroughly relishing.

“First and foremost, I am loving still playing, but I am also really excited to be working with the younger lads,” Bresnan said. “It is a case of passing on little nuggets here and there to the younger players and I have really enjoyed the way they have responded.

“There are so many at the club who are just in that zone where it’s time for them to kick on and make match-winning performances on a regular basis, Not just making contributions but saying ‘right, I’m going to take this game by the scruff of the neck and win it for my team.’

“There were examples last year, like Henry Brookes bowling that maiden in the T20 against Worcestershire and Adam Hose’s brilliant century against Northants. Now it’s about building the consistency across all formats.

“In the championship, it’s about playing really good cricket for four days, not three and a half when that other half a day can cost you the game or make sure you don’t win it. We did that quite a few times last year and that’s why we ended up drawing games.

“We have got the talent, there’s no doubt about that, it’s just about the consistency.”
