Second XI Championship Report: Warwickshire v Lancashire
A record third wicket partnership in the second innings helped Warwickshire beat Lancashire by six wickets after declarations were deployed to breathe life into the heavily rain-affected Second XI Championship game at Portland Road.
After the Red Rose totalled 284 in their first innings, the bad weather bit deep into the match so the captains agreed that the second and third innings should be truncated.
The Bears declared their first innings on 173 for three (Roshan Balaji 47 not out, Chris Benjamin 37 not out) and then fed the visitors some declaration bowling to which they gorged to the tune of 138 without loss from six overs.
That left the Bears a target of 250 on the last afternoon and they reached 251 for four thanks to a fine century from 15-year-old Academy member Amir Khan (100, 145 balls, 12 fours, one six). Khan was well supported by Benjamin (78, 79 balls, ten fours, one six) in a superb record second XI partnership versus Lancashire of 156 in 29 overs.
