First Team Coach Mark Robinson spoke following the Bears seven-wicket victory over reigning champions Essex at Edgbaston.
Needing 256 in 82 overs, Warwickshire reached the target with eight balls to spare, to hand the visitors their first-class defeat since in 22 matches..
“You have to be don’t you,” Robinson responded when asked how pleased he was with the performance.
“They’re a quality team Essex and they showed all their quality yesterday because they were 20/4, on the ropes and we were ready to give that killer punch.
“But they fought back and I said to the boys last night ‘sometimes heavyweights going punch to punch, which one is going land that killer punch at the right time’.
“We couldn’t land it yesterday, Essex fought back, and gave us a stiff chase on a last day wicket with the best spinner in the championship.
“But to win as convincingly as that and to watch a young man (Rob Yates) come of age is really exciting. He’s an impressive man Yatesy, but that’s a career turning moment. He was outstanding.”
