Precocious natural talent

Jake is an all-rounder of immense natural talent who has come through the Warwickshire Academy into the senior squad.

Born in Barbados, the left-arm spinner came to Warwickshire aged 12 as part of the Club’s relationship with Rugby School and its Director of Cricket, former Bears’ captain Michael Powell.

He subsequently played for Warwickshire’s Under 13s county age group team and Emerging Players Programme before being awarded an Academy place in 2018.

“Edgbaston is my home. I really want to play my part in bringing success to the county and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”

All Rounder

Bethell took adroitly to Second XI Championship and T20 cricket and trained with the England Young Lions squad at Loughborough before making his Bears first team bow, and looking entirely at home there, in 2021.

He made his England Lions debut in early 2023, hitting two half-centuries as part of their tour in Sri Lanka.

Jake played in Warwickshire’s opening County Championship game of 2023 at Somerset but, frustratingly, was diagnosed with a stress fracture of his back shortly after.

It prevented him from bowling again during the season, though he did make 16 appearances across all formats as a specialist batter, scoring 323 runs.
