Dom Sibley could return to Warwickshire's team for the LV= Insurance County Championship game at Essex next week if his recovery from a broken finger continues to go well.
The England opener has been sidelined since suffering the injury when trying to take a slip catch against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge on April 16.
But his injury is healing well enough for him to pencil in a return for the match at Chelmsford.
“It was not the ideal way to start the season and was a bit of a double blow, dropping a catch in the process,” he said.
“It is frustrating but not common practice for a cricketer. I have had a few broken fingers and thumbs over the years, it’s part of the job. You just put yourself in the hands of the medics and wait for it to heal, then go again.
“I’m on the mend and hopefully will be back out there playing soon. If all goes well and I train well this week, hopefully I’ll be able to play for the second team next week with a view to putting myself in contention to play at Essex later that week.”
